Christos Houses of Sanctuary

Houses of Sanctuary

Christos House is here to assist people who are escaping domestic violence or sexual violence by providing them a place of refuge and support. Christos House provides positive support for a change during the most trying of times in an individual’s life.

Unfortunately, demand for our services is constant. The challenges during the last five years have brought public safety and health considerations and have proven our current setup inadequate. With the hope to continue to support individuals through the most challenging of times, we have started to change our shelter operation to tiny homes. With this type of setup, we will be able to give individuals autonomy and privacy while they heal and grow.  In fact, our emergency shelter is now being expanded to serve an ever-growing population and to make sure that everyone in need has the ability to protect their families, while building back their independence. The project has started, and progress pictures have been shared on our Facebook page.

Accordingly, there are fourteen tiny homes that need to be built concurrently with our new administrative/ client services building, construction of which has already begun. The construction is slated to be done sooner than we expected and with that the need for our fourteen tiny homes is needed sooner than our original date. We already have so many individuals and local businesses donating to our tiny homes project and some have outright adopted a home.

The fourteen tiny homes for people subjected to abuse and sexual violence will be constructed as follows:

·         Six one-bedroom houses for single individuals, or a parent with a child. The cost is estimated to be $30,000 each or $180,000 in total.

·         Six two-bedroom houses for a parent with up to three children. Cost: $40,000 each or $240,000 in total.

·         Two three-bedroom houses for a parent with up to five children. Cost: $50,000 each or $100,000 in total.

·         Funds to establish concrete pads for the sanctuary homes, utility hook ups, sidewalks, landscaping, a playground, furniture, other miscellaneous necessities, and added security equipment for all 14 tiny homes is estimated to be $180,000.

The total costs for Christos Houses of Sanctuary Homes project is estimated to be, at a minimum, $700,000.

We are currently 42% funded towards our overall goal, and 60% funded towards just the tiny homes! Thank you to our great communities and to every business and individual who directly donated!
